Introduction

The scope of work identified for the HIPIN project aims to develop new nano-based insulation systems, which are a mix of different techniques and technologies and hence require expertise from a range of fields including building block development, sol-gel technology, aerogel production, paint and coating systems, product integration, and paint/coating application technology. The industrial interest in the HIPIN concept is reflected in the representation of the construction, chemical, and paint systems industries. The participation from industries from the chemical build up through to end-users ensures not only the commercial drive of the development of HIPIN technology, but also of course the combined skills and expertise required to deliver the S&T objectives.
